Cllr Elsa Tattersfield was originally from Staffordshire and moved to Shefford with her husband in 1983, where her two children then attended school. She holds a degree in BA (Hons) Social Science, a National Government Certificate relating to the Protection of Information, and qualified as a general nurse (although, no longer registered).
Her first job upon arriving in Shefford was as a receptionist at the Shefford Health Centre. She went on to work for Eldon Industries as the import and export officer and, later at Shuttleworth Agricultural College, as a course administrator and lecturers’ assistant. Elsa then worked within the town, as assistant to Sir Nicholas Lyell MP, and at the Defence Intelligence Security Centre (DISC) at Chicksands as the vetting officer, where she was fortunate to meet the Duke of Edinburgh.
Elsa retired in 2013 to pursue her interests, including gardening, walking and Yoga, which she taught at the Health Centre, and nature conservation, being a member of the RSPB.
She volunteered in 2014 as a Trustee member and Booking Officer for Shefford Community Hall Committee and has subsequently taken on the roles of Treasurer and Website Editor.
She joined Shefford Town Council in 2015 and is a member of the Service & Environment Committee and the Bellcote Meadow Millennium Green Trust. Elsa’s pet project for the town was, with the support of the council, to set up hanging flower baskets in the Town Centre to brighten up the summer months – and they are still continued today!
