Cllr Fred Wilson was born in Reading and had his first job with GPO Telephones. He moved to Bristol in his twenties to work for BAE Systems as a qualified electronics engineer and project manager. After moving to Bedfordshire in 1996, he continued a career spanning over thirty years with BAE Systems. Taking early retirement from BAE Astute Submarine project in 2002, he built a portfolio of project management jobs in diverse areas, including oil & gas control systems and aerospace microelectronics products.
He has a Management Diploma and is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, serving as a regional representative on the National Council.
Fred joined the Town Council in October 2008 and has been the Chair of the Planning and Highways Committee for the past eight years, while also being a member of the Finance and Strategy Committee. He acts as the Town Council representative for the Robert Lucas Trust and is a past President of a local Probus group.
Fred and his wife, Mary, who is a member of the Shefford Good Neighbours Group, have eight grandchildren between them – so you can imagine buying presents for them is significant!
